Pediatric speech language pathology is a field of therapy that helps children develop their communication skills. Speech language pathologist work with children of all ages who have a variety of communication disorders, including challenges with being understood, speaking to others, using the right type of language and social situations, phonological disorders, who then struggle in academics in the area of reading and writing, and those who have difficulty with feeding and swallowing. Our Speech Therapists are here to support your child in strengthening their communication skills in areas of receptive and expressive language so they can be understood, speak clearly with others, as well as understand the language for the natural process of learning and socializing.
How We Can Help
Our speech therapist work with children between the ages of 2 to 18 years of age who present with difficulties in the areas of:
- Language development, receptive language disorders (understanding, spoken, language) and expressive language disorders (using spoken language to communicate)
- Articulation disorders, difficulty producing certain sounds and sound combinations,
- Stuttering or stammering
- Childhood apraxia; difficulty planning and coordinating the movements of the lips, tongue, and jaw for Speech
- Connecting and relating to others
- Auditory processing disorders
- Literacy in the areas of reading and writing
- Voice, including quality, volume, and awareness of voice being used
- Social communication, including greetings, making friends and social interactions
Speech Pathologists use a variety of techniques to help children develop their communication skills. Our speech therapists have a vast knowledge and understanding of how sensory integration, difficult difficulties, anxiety, visual, processing difficulties, personality, and hearing difficulties, and diagnoses, such as ADHD and anxiety can have an impact on communication.
Does My Child Need Assistance?
Every child develops at a different rate, however, there are some key signs that indicate your child may benefit from speech therapy. These include:
- Withdrawal from social situations
- Increased frustration and behaviors when trying to communicate
- Difficulties to follow directions
- Difficulty sharing thoughts and ideas
- Difficulty with using the correct grammar or words in a sentence
- Using made up words
- Difficulties in the classroom with listening and completing tasks
- Difficulties with reading or writing
- Mispronouncing words
- No use of language
- Minimal joint attention
- Poor place schema
- Echoing language (repeating rather than answering a question)

Therapy Techniques
Our speech therapist uses a wide range of evidence-based interventions. Our therapist use the method of DIR floortime for those that are suited, Kaufman K-SLP, early language expression, techniques for developing receptive and expressive language, LIPS phoneme sequencing program, oral motor techniques, expanding expression tool, augmentative and alternative communication, gestalt language processing, and articulation therapy.
