Modalities

A Modality refers to a method or approach used to achieve a result or in which something is experienced or expressed. It can apply to various fields, including:
- Therapy: Different therapeutic approaches or techniques, like cognitive-behavioral therapy or physical therapy modalities.
- Education: Modalities in learning refer to the different methods of teaching, such as auditory, visual, and kinesthetic (hands-on learning).
- Communication: Refers to the different ways of communicating, such as verbal, nonverbal, written, or visual modalities.
Mind Body Child offers a multitude of modalities to both support our therapeutic interventions, educational program, home, and school. These modalities are used for interventions of ADHD, Working Memory, Processing Disorders, Emotional Regulation, motor skills, and academics. At this time we offer the Interactive Metronome, CogMed, Mightier (biofeedback), Reflexion, and Hearbuilder. We are also trained in the Therapeutic Listening Programs.
Reflex Integration
Reflex Integration Therapy (RIT) is a therapeutic approach aimed at addressing retained primitive reflexes that may affect a child’s development. Primitive reflexes are involuntary movements that should integrate by 12 months but may persist, leading to developmental delays, learning difficulties, or conditions like ADHD, Anxiety, Autism, and cerebral palsy. RIT therapy uses targeted movements and sensory activities to stimulate the nervous system and promote reflex integration, helping improve overall development and functioning.
HearBuilder
HearBuilder is an educational software designed for children in Pre-K through 5th grade, focusing on key literacy skills like following directions, phonological awareness, auditory memory, and sequencing. It helps children improve reading fluency, spelling, listening skills, and critical thinking. By enhancing their ability to process and recall information, HearBuilder provides a strong foundation for language development, making it an effective tool for boosting literacy and comprehension skills in young learners.
CogMed
Cogmed is a web-based software program designed to improve working memory and attention, often used to complement child therapies for ADHD, learning disabilities, neurological conditions, and recovery from cancer treatment. The program consists of 25 online sessions that train cognitive skills through visual and auditory exercises. Studies show Cogmed can enhance focus, concentration, academic performance, and self-regulation. Backed by over 120 peer-reviewed studies, Cogmed offers an effective solution for strengthening cognitive abilities.
Reflexion
Reflexion Vision Trainer is a cognitive training program designed to enhance visual processing and cognitive skills, particularly for athletes. It uses a combination of hardware, such as the Reflexion Edge lightboard system or Reflexion GO VR headset app, alongside cloud-based software. The program delivers personalized exercises to improve visual skills, focus, and performance, helping athletes of all levels sharpen their cognitive abilities for better results in their sport.
Mightier
Mightier is a biofeedback program designed for children aged 6-14 to help them manage emotions through engaging video games. Using a heart rate monitor, the program adjusts game difficulty based on the child’s physiological responses, reinforcing calmness and emotional regulation. Mightier helps children recognize and manage emotions, reduce anxiety, improve focus, and manage frustration. Studies show it leads to fewer emotional outbursts, reduced oppositional behaviors, and improved overall well-being.
Interactive Metronome
Interactive Metronome (IM) is a therapeutic tool used to enhance motor skills, attention, coordination, and cognitive function. Through synchronized whole-body exercises to a computer-generated beat, individuals receive visual and auditory feedback. IM is beneficial for children with cognitive and physical challenges, including ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, developmental delays, and stroke. Research shows IM therapy can improve timing, rhythm, coordination, memory, attention, and motor skills, promoting overall functional improvement.
